My name is Mace Vitale. Welcome to my website.
Let me tell you a little bit about myself. My first job was working for my father in our pre-cast concrete business that specialized in architectural reproduction. We made everything that you can think of out of concrete. I learned a great deal from my father, from how to use tools and your hands to make something to how to make something from nothing.
We closed the family business during the mid 1990's, and I wandered through a succession of jobs, ranging from bartender to mortgage broker. Then I stumbled upon a position working under a coppersmith, making copper garden sculpture. Its effect on me was less than subtle. I was hooked!
I took a blacksmithing class at a local craft center (Guilford Art Center), and afterward searched high and low for information. I happened upon a website dedicated to the forged blade, the American Bladesmith Society. In September of 2001, I drove almost 1600 miles to attend the ABS "Introduction to Bladesmithing" class, and have been studying and making knives ever since. In June of 2006 I tested and succeeded in passing the ABS Journeyman Smith qualifications.
I pride myself on my attention to detail. The way I see things, the only way I'll possibly be able to garner a customer's satisfaction is through my own satisfaction. I fashion everything I make as if it will be my own.
I hope you enjoy my site. If you have any questions or would like more information on my work, please call or e-mail me. Thanks for stopping by and remember what my Pop always told me:
"Ain't nothin' more useless than a dull knife or a short piece of rope."
